You Can Help
Land conservation is truly an area
where individuals and organizations can make a difference.
How can YOU help the Bay County
Conservancy (BCC) in its mission
to protect the natural lands in our local community?
Become a memberof BCC either as an individual or an organization.
Volunteer. Put your expertise to work, get involved and help
local people save local lands. Visit our
Volunteers
page for details.
Local
business support. Among its many goals, the Bay County
Conservancy is deeply committed to preserving the green open space
so critical to the health of our economy. Local businesses can help
protect the distinct identity of Bay County for future generations
by providing support through annual donations, in-kind goods and
services, and event sponsorships.
Donate Land. Preserve habitat and wildlife. Get a
tax deduction, possibly stretched over several years to maximize the
tax deduction. Possibly lower your estate taxes. Name
the donated land for your family if you wish. When you donate
land, the land is protected forever, for enjoyment of everyone in
Bay County.
Donate Funds. Donate to BCC and your money stays LOCAL.
When you join BCC or contribute to the Land Acquisition Fund, all
the money is used here in our own community to protect our
local
lands. Donations can be made online. Please see the How to Make a
Donation information at the bottom of this page.
Donate a Conservation Easement. A conservation easement is a
contract between a landowner and the BCC that protects certain
natural resources on the land. It allows the owner to use that land
for purposes such as farming, tree farming, and hunting. By
removing the development rights the owner is usually entitled to a
tax deduction. The conservation land is protected in
perpetuity, an excellent way to protect your land after you no
longer personally own it.
BCC as Holder
of Mitigation Lands. If you develop a parcel of property
that is partially composed of wetlands, BCC may be able to help
fulfill your state and federal permits for mitigation by accepting
ownership of the mitigated area, managing it to restore full
resource value, and preserving it forever. This usually requires an
endowment fund from the landowner for management of the lands.
Sell
Land to the BCC as a Bargain Sale. You can sell the land
to the BCC for less than the appraised value and take a tax
deduction on the difference.
Bequeath land or other assets in your will.
BCC
can discuss any of these options further with you. BCC is
non-profit. Donations are tax deductible.
